King Concrete Hollywood has poured thousands of solid concrete slabs to be used as the foundation for all types of structures. From a concrete slab for a garden shed to a garage floor or an addition to a home, we will pour a concrete slab that can withstand the unique conditions of South Florida.
We have installed thousands of concrete slabs throughout Broward County and the City of Hollywood. Each installation presents various factors to consider when designing and building a concrete slab, including but not limited to thickness, reinforcement, drainage, and finishing. We understand the various requirements for each type of installation due to our extensive experience with installing numerous concrete slabs in the past.
A concrete slab may appear to be a simple process; however, if you are considering the effects of Hollywood’s sandy soil, the high water table, and the potential for seasonal flooding, the design and engineering of the slab becomes much more complicated. We take into consideration all of these variables to ensure that the finished slab remains level, allows for proper drainage, and will last for many years.
Concrete slabs are a flat horizontal area made by pouring concrete onto the ground. They can be used as foundations, floors, or bases for many different types of structures and applications. In order for a quality slab to be produced, it all starts with how well you prepare; this is what makes the difference in a successful or failed slab.
First, we will check the type of soil that is present on the site and then figure out how thick we want our slab to be. We will also have to decide if we need to use any steel reinforcement in our slab (rebar) and determine where we would like the water to drain off after it rains. After we have figured out these factors, we will begin executing the pour. While the concrete being placed into the slab is important, there is much more to creating a quality slab than just placing the concrete. How well we prepare prior to the placement of the concrete will ultimately determine whether the slab will succeed or fail.

Every concrete slab is engineered to meet the demands of its intended application and the site where it will be located. The factors that are considered in designing every concrete slab include:
Load requirements: Engineering a slab as a base for a hot tub would require significantly more engineering than for a shed.
Soil conditions: Slabs built over Hollywood’s sandy soils may require special site preparation to ensure they do not settle excessively.
Water flow: If you live in South Florida, you know how much rain falls during the rainy season; therefore, your slab will need to have proper grading and drainage to allow water to drain away quickly.
Reinforcement: Depending upon the load that the slab will bear, we will determine if rebar, wire mesh, or fiber-reinforced concrete is required.
Slab thickness: The minimum thickness for a standard residential slab is 4 inches; however, slabs with heavy loads can be up to 6 inches thick or even thicker.
Finish: Depending upon the type of slab being designed, the finish could vary from smooth trowel finishes to broom finishes to exposed aggregates.
Our approach is to provide engineering solutions and not simply pour concrete. Every project receives a custom design to function properly.

A concrete slab will provide a barrier to protect your yard from erosion, control water flow through your yard, and provide a stable area where you can walk. The concrete slab is poured with a slight slope so the water flows away from your house, which is important when there are heavy rains in Florida during certain times of the year.
The space under the slab can be used as an outdoor living space, to store lawn equipment or other items, and/or used as a base for additional structures you may want to add in the future.
If you have a garden shed or plan to build one, a concrete slab for the garden shed will provide the flat, solid base that most garden sheds require. We will size the slab to fit your shed, add reinforcement as necessary, and design the slab so that the water runs off rather than accumulating underneath the slab.
You won’t have to worry about the floors of your shed rotting and your gardening tools rusting due to being placed in a damp environment. The slab will last longer than your garden shed.
If you plan to install a concrete slab around your swimming pool equipment, or if you’re looking to put a concrete slab down to serve as a base for your pool deck, we can do this for you. When installing a slab around a pool, we consider how much moisture the slab will be exposed to and how the slab will settle with water present.
It is very important to get the water to drain properly around a pool because it can cause problems with the equipment and attract mosquitoes. Therefore, we make sure that the slab is sloped so that the water will run off into the yard.
Regardless of what type of shed you’re building (e.g., storage shed, workshop, hobby space), a concrete slab will provide a solid base for your shed. We can pour slabs for any size shed, including small sheds (e.g., 8 x 10 foot storage unit) to larger workspaces (e.g., garage/shop).
We will ensure that the slab is level, properly reinforced, and extends slightly beyond the footprint of your shed to allow for proper drainage.
Below is an outline of what you can expect when we complete your installation project.

Local Knowledge: We know how to overcome soil, water, and structural problems common to the area.
Proper Design & Engineering: We do not “guess” at the amount of steel or the thickness of the slab required for a job; we will calculate your specific requirements and design your slab accordingly.
Quality Products: We will use the right type of concrete for the application (i.e., architectural, industrial, etc.) and only the best quality reinforcing products available.
Attention to Detail: A properly graded slab with an adequate base prepared with proper placement of reinforcement is the difference between a long-lasting slab and one that will fail.
Transparent Communication: You can expect us to be open about all aspects of your job so you are aware of everything you are being charged for.
Fair Prices: We will provide you with a fair price for your job that reflects the actual cost of completing your project.
