What is a Concrete Foundation?
Concrete foundations are the structural bases that transfer the weight of a building onto the earth, provide a level base of operation for the construction of the building, and stabilize the building against settlement and shifting due to natural forces and man-made alterations to the environment.

Designing a foundation is not a matter of guessing, but an engineering process. We determine the load-bearing capacity of your structure; we investigate and understand the nature of your soil; and we construct the foundation based upon the minimum requirements of the state building codes of Florida, to ensure that your structure will be stable.
Concrete Foundation Design: Engineered Solutions
Each foundation is engineered based on each project’s specifics:
Soil Evaluation: We analyze each soil’s bearing capacity as well as each foundation’s design in order to design a customized foundation for that soil. The sandy soils common in Hollywood require specific types of foundations to be built.
Load Calculation: We calculate how much weight each foundation will have to support (i.e., structure, contents, live load, etc.) as well as all other environmental forces that may impact the foundation.

Concrete Foundation Installation Process
The concrete foundation installation process is as follows:
- Site Preparation: All debris and vegetation will be removed, and all areas of site preparation will be graded properly to ensure proper drainage.
- Excavation: We will excavate the site to the appropriate depth based on the design of the foundation and the soil conditions that exist at the site.
- Soil Compaction: The soil will be compacted to prevent settlement and to provide a stable base for the foundation.
- Base Installation: Crushed stone or gravel will be installed to the correct thickness in accordance with the plans and specifications for the job and will then be compacted.
- Moisture Barrier: Plastic sheeting will be placed over the entire area to keep groundwater from migrating up through the base material and into the concrete.
- Forming: Forms will be built around the area where the concrete will be poured, so the concrete can be contained and the desired shape of the foundation can be created.
- Utility Coordination (Plumbers/Electricians): Utilities such as plumbing and electrical will need to be installed prior to pouring the concrete.
- Rebar Installation: Reinforcing steel (rebar) will be installed according to the engineer’s specifications, including but not limited to spacing, overlap, and support.
- Inspection: Inspections may be scheduled by local authorities before the placement of the concrete.
- Concrete Pour: High-quality concrete will be placed to the specified thickness, vibrated to remove air pockets, and worked to ensure the concrete is properly consolidated.
