Concrete Foundations in Hollywood, FL

Foundations That Will Support Your Structure For Years To Come

King Concrete Hollywood installs a variety of different types of concrete foundations that will create a stable base for any type of building or structure. Whether you are building a house, expanding your current home with an addition, or building a new commercial building, the foundation that is installed will determine the overall performance of your structure for years to come.

We have installed numerous foundations in both residential and commercial areas throughout Hollywood and Broward County. We have designed and installed each foundation to be able to withstand the unique conditions found in South Florida, including sandy soils, high water levels, and the powerful wind forces associated with hurricanes. Because we have installed so many successful foundations, we understand what works here and why our customers choose us.

A foundation is invisible after the project is completed and the building is constructed; however, it is probably the single most important structural component of any building. We get it right the first time, as there is no way to correct a poorly constructed foundation when the rest of the building is finished.

What is a Concrete Foundation?

Concrete foundations are the structural bases that transfer the weight of a building onto the earth, provide a level base of operation for the construction of the building, and stabilize the building against settlement and shifting due to natural forces and man-made alterations to the environment.

Due to the unique characteristics of the soils in South Florida (sandy soils that can settle or move) and the presence of high water tables in many areas (which generate hydrostatic pressure), as well as the potential for high winds due to hurricanes, we design and build foundations that will accommodate all of these aspects.

Designing a foundation is not a matter of guessing, but an engineering process. We determine the load-bearing capacity of your structure; we investigate and understand the nature of your soil; and we construct the foundation based upon the minimum requirements of the state building codes of Florida, to ensure that your structure will be stable.

Concrete Foundation Design: Engineered Solutions

Each foundation is engineered based on each project’s specifics:

Soil Evaluation: We analyze each soil’s bearing capacity as well as each foundation’s design in order to design a customized foundation for that soil. The sandy soils common in Hollywood require specific types of foundations to be built.

Load Calculation: We calculate how much weight each foundation will have to support (i.e., structure, contents, live load, etc.) as well as all other environmental forces that may impact the foundation.

Design of Reinforcing Steel: We decide what size and spacing of rebar to use as well as where it should be placed in the concrete so that we can support the loads applied to the foundation without allowing cracks to develop in the concrete.

Drainage Plan: We create an engineering plan to properly grade and drain water away from the foundation.

Compliance with Codes: We make sure that all design plans comply with the Florida Building Code as well as local building codes for this area of the state.

The design of each foundation is required by law before obtaining a permit and is also necessary for the structural safety of the building. When plans need to be stamped by an engineer, we will do so.

Concrete Foundation Installation Process

The concrete foundation installation process is as follows:

  1. Site Preparation: All debris and vegetation will be removed, and all areas of site preparation will be graded properly to ensure proper drainage.
  2. Excavation: We will excavate the site to the appropriate depth based on the design of the foundation and the soil conditions that exist at the site.
  3. Soil Compaction: The soil will be compacted to prevent settlement and to provide a stable base for the foundation.
  4. Base Installation: Crushed stone or gravel will be installed to the correct thickness in accordance with the plans and specifications for the job and will then be compacted.
  5. Moisture Barrier: Plastic sheeting will be placed over the entire area to keep groundwater from migrating up through the base material and into the concrete.
  6. Forming: Forms will be built around the area where the concrete will be poured, so the concrete can be contained and the desired shape of the foundation can be created.
  7. Utility Coordination (Plumbers/Electricians): Utilities such as plumbing and electrical will need to be installed prior to pouring the concrete.
  8. Rebar Installation: Reinforcing steel (rebar) will be installed according to the engineer’s specifications, including but not limited to spacing, overlap, and support.
  9. Inspection: Inspections may be scheduled by local authorities before the placement of the concrete.
  10. Concrete Pour: High-quality concrete will be placed to the specified thickness, vibrated to remove air pockets, and worked to ensure the concrete is properly consolidated.
  11. Finishing: Once the concrete has set and hardened, it will be leveled and finished to meet the requirements of the project.

Concrete Footings: Foundation Essentials

An enlarged base section called a footing distributes a concentrated load to the earth. There are several reasons we use a concrete footing for:

Column Footings: A square or rectangular pad placed below a post or column (and sized for the load it is designed to support)

Continuous Footings: A long strip footing placed below load-bearing walls (to provide continuous support).

Grade Beams: A reinforced beam that spans the length of two footings (to tie the whole foundation system together).

A footing with proper design will prevent differential settlement (a condition in which different parts of a building settle by varying amounts). We determine the correct size of a footing based on the soil bearing capacity and structural loading of the footing.

Why Choose King Concrete Hollywood for Your Foundation?

Hollywood Soil Conditions & Building Code Expertise: We are well-versed in Hollywood’s soil conditions (such as expansive clay) and water table depths. In addition, we have knowledge of local building codes and will ensure your new construction meets all required standards.

Engineer Coordination: Before beginning any of our construction projects, we will review and coordinate with your engineer(s) to ensure all structural elements comply with your stamped engineering plan.

High Quality Products Used: When it comes to performing foundation work, we use high-quality products such as special foundation concrete mix designs and properly specified reinforcing materials.

The Right Way to Install: Foundation installation is precise work. Properly placing reinforcement, compacting the concrete, and curing the concrete are just a few examples of what must be done correctly when installing foundations.

Reliable Scheduling: If you do not complete your foundation installation on schedule, it may cause delays in the overall project schedule. We work hard to ensure the timely completion of your project and coordinate effectively with all other trade contractors involved.

Fully Licensed & Insured for Work in the State of Florida: As a licensed and insured contractor in the state of Florida, we can perform foundation work for homeowners throughout the South Florida area.
